Ruby‑Throated Hummingbird Needle‑Felting Workshop

Capture the shimmer, charm, and tiny wonder of a ruby‑throated hummingbird — all with wool from the Big Ash Farm flock on the west side of Lafayette. In this hands‑on workshop, you’ll learn how to sculpt expressive shapes, blend colors for that iconic ruby throat, and bring a little winged jewel to life using simple needle‑felting techniques.

Whether you’re brand‑new to felting or already love working with fiber, this project is pure joy: small enough to finish in an evening, detailed enough to feel magical, and rooted in the story of local wool and the animals who grow it.

You’ll leave with:

• A beautifully felted hummingbird ready to perch, gift, or display

• A deeper understanding of shaping, detailing, and color blending

• A connection to the flock whose wool you’re working with

All materials are provided — just bring your curiosity and a love for tiny, beautiful things that spark delight.

Alrighty, now that you know WHAT you're doing, learn about WHO you're doing it with! Our lovely instructor is Noelle, from Big Ash Farm. The wool you will be using comes from her farm - literally farm to table, turned into a humminbird! She also hand dies the wool herself. Its truly a unique experience to work with Noelle (in a good way!) I was lucky enough to visit her at the farm recently and meet the kind sheep who supply us our wool.

• There is no minimum age for this workshop. Please note that we will be using sharp felting needles, so if you plan to bring a minor, we encourage you to use your judgment and make the decision that feels right for your family.

• Advance registration required. Spots must be reserved ahead of time so we can prep materials accordingly. Because of this, tickets are non-refundable. 

• Wine and beer will be available for purchase, so you can sip while you create!
