8/19 | Beaded Blessing Bag Necklace

Create a beautiful keepsake that's as meaningful as it is unique.

In this 3-hour workshop, you'll learn the art of bead embroidery while creating a handcrafted blessing bag necklace. These tiny wearable pouches have been used to carry meaningful treasures—a handwritten wish, a special note, a tiny crystal, dried flower petals, or another small keepsake that reminds you of someone or something you love.

Using a pre-sewn fabric bag, you'll embellish your necklace with a beautiful center stone or abalone shell button, decorative beadwork, and hand-beaded fringe. Throughout the workshop, your instructor will guide you step-by-step through each technique, making this class approachable for beginners while leaving plenty of room for creativity.

The instructor has chosen beautiful beads in a variety of colors to complement each bag. Extra beads will be available.

Techniques You'll Learn

Your instructor will demonstrate each technique step-by-step before giving you time to practice and complete each section of your necklace. During the workshop, you'll learn:

• Beaded back stitch to embellish the center stone or button
• Beaded overcast stitch and/or ladder stitch to close the sides of the bag
• Beaded edging to finish the top of the bag
• Beaded dangle (fringe) stitch to embellish the bottom of the bag

About the Instructor, Karen 

With over 35 years of stitching experience, your instructor has explored a wide variety of embroidery and beadwork techniques. She'll demonstrate each step, provide individual guidance throughout class, and help everyone create a finished piece they'll be proud to wear.
